Omurice Next Time is a slice of life interactive storybook about a foodie couple and their sweet daily life.

Finn and Gray have been married for five years. Life is simple, perhaps a bit ordinary, and that is good.

Finn opens a sweets shop, and Gray is a truck driver. They don't have much, but luckily there is always food on the table. No matter what happens, they got each other.

These are slices of their husband & husband's life, fragments of their joy and love, hopes and dreams, and casual awkwardness and embarrassment.

  • Made with Love - A heartwarming experience inspired by personal life.
  • Relentlessly Gay - And I am proud of it! The next update will be even gayer.
  • Light Comedy - The story is fun and filled with joy. Perhaps a bit silly sometimes. Not too much, just enough to bring a smile to your face.
  • Bigger on the Inside - What is it? Tap, drag, and press! It is a book you can both read and play.
  • Sit Back and Relax - There are no pressures, and you don't have to accomplish anything. Just like what life is supposed to be.

On the occasion of my work being published, please allow me to introduce myself.

My name is Griffin Cyan, the author of Omurice Next Time. My avatar kind of resembles me in real life.

The story of Omurice Next Time is deeply personal. The inspiration was drawn from day-to-day life, and the characters were based on those I hold dear. It is a love letter, a memoir, and a vision.

To you, my dear readers, I sincerely hope you can find joy, peace, and strength in it.

Omurice Next Time is set in 2008, which was over a decade ago. A lot has changed since then. To this day, Finn and Gray are still together. Luckily, some things never change.

I wonder what happened during these years, and what the future will be like for our boys. Time flies, life carries on. And the story will continue.

I will post on Twitter and Instagram if new ideas come to mind. You are more than welcome to follow.

Lovely game!  I just finished the game on Steam, except for one achievement that I am having a very hard time achieving.  It's the very first achievement with the kites.  I've already maxed my volume both in game and on my speaker and I still cannot hear the theme music.  Is there a hint or guide solution to obtaining the last achievement?

Hi Puffin! Glad to help! The theme tune is CCGGAAGG. Every time a kite is tapped, a corresponding note will be played.

- The Red Kite stands for note C

- The Yellow Kite stands for note G

- The White Kite stands for the note A

So, tapping the kites in this order will unlock the achievement "Arrival of Nightwind": Red, Red, Yellow, Yellow, White, White, Yellow, Yellow.

Hope this helps, and please let me know if you encounter any issues! Cheers!

Thank you for the help.  It worked.

Hello! This game seems really charming, but I'm having trouble playing it. For some reason, it doesn't really respond to my mouse—I have to click on the speech bubbles and anything I'm interacting with six or seven times before it does anything, if it does. There also seems to be a long wait time for anything to happen (e.g. making the dorayaki was taking several minutes to make just one.)

It makes it frustrating rather than relaxing. I can't tell when there's more dialogue that's supposed to be playing or more writing that's supposed to appear, or if something on the screen is supposed to be interactive but is just not responding. Because of the way the scenes are set up, I also can't tell when each scene is done, or if I'm missing story content by accident. I realized early on that I'd missed their entire conversation about being sent rice cakes for New Year's because it had taken so long for the dialogue bubble to show up. There isn't really any clear visual indication (as far as I can tell) to say when you're supposed to move to the next part, so I end up waiting on each page a long time just in case.

Hi there! Many many thanks for your love and support, I really appreciate it. And I am sorry for the issues encountered.

For the mouse input issue, may I suggest you try the Steam version? The latest version on both Itch and Steam is 1.1.1, but for the Steam build, a hotfix for a bug in input detection has been fixed, so it's a slightly updated version. This might help you solve the issue. (If you purchased it from Itch, you should be able to claim a Steam key.)

For the visual indication you mentioned, I am working on it indeed! Enhanced interactive design with a new framework is under development, this requires a rewrite of the whole game, and I already started working.

Hi, thanks for getting back to me! I'll try the Steam version, although I think it would be nice to also update the version on Itch when you have the chance to!

Good to hear that you're working on a visual indicator for when scenes finish. Actually, I might wait for an update on that, at which point hopefully the input detection will be working as well. :)

I also want to add that what I did play of the game seemed really charming and heartfelt, even though I was having these issues. I'm looking forward to trying it again without the frustration.

Hi, I just received a mail that said I could redeem a Steam key, through my full copy of this game, but when I enter the page it doesn't show me the same as you show in the screenshots, Have I, entered too early, or have I done something wrong? Greetings! 😉

(+3)

Greetings, Terwilf!

May I ask, did you tie the game with your itch.io account when you purchased it? If not, then the game will not be presented in the "My Purchases" section in your itch.io account, and you might not be able to access the download page.

To solve this, you could refer to this article to retrieve the link for the download page from itch: https://itch.io/docs/buying/already-bought.

You could also search your email inbox and see if you could find the link sent by itch by the time you purchased it.

Received the "Redeem Your Steam Key" email means you are one of the key owners, I can confirm. And I have submitted sufficient Steam Keys for all the key owners. No worries.

(+1)

I got the email and there is not steam key option in my downloads (You claimed this game  Jan 10, 2023 for the promotion The Arrival of Nightwind.)

(+2)

Hi! Recevied the email means you are one of the "Download keys" owners, and you can access the game forever and its external key (Steam key). Even if you claimed the game in a 100% off sale in The Arrival of Nightwind. As stated in this article: https://itch.io/docs/creators/download-keys

I suggest you refer to this page to generate a new link for the download page: https://itch.io/docs/buying/already-bought

The "Claim Steam key" button should be right below the download section.

(+1)

Yes but I don't have such button

(+2)

No worries, I am contacting itch.io support and reporting this issue. I will let you know once there are any updates.

(+2)

I guess it's some kind of confusion, if I own the full version, I did get the mail announcing the Steam key, but I got the game in "The Arrival of Nightwind" promotion.

(+1)

Of course, I have always used the same account, so the game is linked to my profile.

(+3)

Indeed, this is a very odd issue.

Because per itch.io rules, download key owners also have access to the external key (Steam Key), they stated clearly here: https://itch.io/docs/creators/download-keys

You claimed the game from "The Arrival of Nightwind" promotion, it has tied to your account and given you permanent access, as well as giving you the "Key Owner" status, you should be able to access the external key.

I checked that I have supplied enough Steam Keys, or else there will be a "There are no keys available at this time, try again later" message on the download page instead of showing nothing.

Nevertheless, I already contacted itch.io support days ago, hopefully, I can get a reply soon and solve this issue.

(+2)

By the way, have you connected your itch.io account with your Steam account?

It says "A Steam account is necessary to claim Steam keys from your purchases where available." So it might be worth a try.

I claimed the game in the same giveaway and had already made an itch.io account prior to that, and had linked my Steam account with it, and I do not see a button for the Steam key. I've heard itch has issues with Steam keys in general, especially with pages that didn't have Steam keys before...good luck with the support, anyway!

(+1)

The truth is that I was unaware of this feature, but I just linked it and it hasn't changed anything, however, I don't think it's fair to give you so much work, just for a key, for my part, I don't find a real difference between playing it here or on Steam. Although I will of course report back if this situation is resolved, best regards! 😉

(+2)

Thank-you Griffin Cyan, I'm sure it is a beautiful story - though I have only read the demo version.

I did find it physically difficult to turn the pages, and anyone with reduced hand movements would struggle more.  I also struggled and gave up with the cake making, and the massaging.  Some of the buttons on the bath scene also seemed not to work.  It is a great pity that the unique way you make the story interesting and interactive, did seem to present some accessibility issues.

(+1)

Hi jeanpierre71, thanks a ton for your valuable feedback, and I apologize for the issue you encountered and the late response.

Apart from maintaining the project, I still have two part-time jobs, up till recently when the game was about to be released on Steam, I could squeeze in a little bit more time to attend it.

The dorayaki-making mini-game has been fixed in the latest version (Version 1.1.0). The process is more responsive and intuitive now.

For the accessibility issue, I fully agree that it is a vital part, and I have planned to add an accessibility section in the settings in the next update.

Additionally, due to engine limitations, the game is best played with the mouse and is not optimized for playing with trackpad/touchpad. I will find a solution to improve the way the game handles input.

Again, I really appreciate your feedback!

(+1)

Hi Griffin Cyan,

Thank-you for your reply.  Best of luck for the launch of your beautiful storybook on steam.

(+2)

Hello, I just bought your game and I seem to have a problem. How do you click on the different tabs of the main menu ? I use the touchpad of my computer but even with a double click, it won't detect it. Is there something I'm missing ? I really want to play this game 😢

Edit : I found a solution, I used an app to act as my computer mouse and it detects when I click an item. The game still doesn't detect it when I click using my touchpad. When I try to click, the tab I just clicked turns darker but it doesn't launch any animation/new page. I can still play the game using my phone as a mouse tough. I'm happy I get to try your game, it looks really cute and sweet.

(+1)

Hi Ad4am106, thank you so much for letting me know about the issue.

It appears that the game engine is not detecting touchpad clicks as valid gesture inputs, and I have fixed it now. An updated version is on the way.

Your solution is brilliant. At the moment, you could also try trackpad mechanical clicks. I tested it on my Windows PC with the current version of the game, and the clicks was detected correctly. I will further improve trackpad support. Please accept my sincere apology for the inconvenience you have experienced.

And I am so grateful for your kind words, it's my privilege to have the chance to show you my work. I hope this small story will give you strength.

(+2)

That was a really sweet, heart-warming game. It seemed very polished. I enjoyed massaging Gray and seeing all of character's cute expressions. Made me smile. Thank you.

What are the unlockables?

(+2)

I am so glad that you enjoyed my work. Thank you! Klio. You are the best!

The massage scene was inspired by my boyfriend's bad back. He gets lumbar pain very often, upon massaging him, he makes funny noises ☺️

As for the unlockable, I am planning to add an extra section, containing lores, concept arts, and other fun stuff. The story is set in a fictional town called Windreach, in a nation called Beur. It would be fun to extend this world.

I am very sorry for the late reply. Because currently, I am still having a full-time job. I will try my best to keep polishing the game, and your kind words give me strength.

(+1)

No need to apologise. The game feels complete as it is and any extras would be icing on the cake. Finn and Gray are an adorable couple. Looking forward to an update, maybe where they get married?

(+2)

Thank you for understanding 🥰 I too have many thoughts on their wedding.

I think Finn and Gray kept it very simple, with only family and a few friends invited. They registered for marriage at the town's municipal office, witnessed by Sayuri and Nathan. Then spent the rest of the day on Windway Bay, where they first met. (As seen on the first page of Chapter 2: Momo and Friends)

Windway Bay is an important landmark in the story, and indeed worth a lot of exploring.

(+2)

I am getting good vibes from Finn and Gray, they are my relationship goals! Do you have any plans for the series in the future?

(+1)

I feel you hehehehe! And indeed, there are more coming soon!

  • Special Chapters: Several special chapters will add to expand the story.
  • Extra: There will also be an Extra section containing lore, concept arts, and other goodies, unlockable upon finishing all the chapters.
  • Achievements: These are unlockables hidden inside some story pages. It's great for completionists.

Apart from adding content to the game, the webcomics of Omurice Next Time are also in the process of making. I will regularly publish them on social media and blogs. So please stay tuned!
